BETHANY, W.Va. – Joseph Greschner ’13 graduated from Bethany College as a biology major, and credits Bethany with laying the foundation for an impressive and highly specialized medical career. After graduating in 2013, he went on to podiatry school, followed by one of the nation’s top foot and ankle surgery residencies in Columbus, Ohio, and an orthopedic foot and ankle fellowship in Sarasota, Florida.
His career has since taken him across the country and back home to West Virginia, where he founded and chaired the podiatry department at Lakeland Regional Medical Center before becoming the primary foot and ankle specialist for Mountainstate Orthopedic Associates in Morgantown. Today, Joseph is the owner of Greschner Foot & Ankle Specialists, providing both surgical and nonsurgical care to patients throughout North Central West Virginia and surrounding areas.
Though his professional path has taken him far beyond Bethany’s campus, Joseph remains closely connected to the College through the friendships he built there. He stays in regular contact with his Phi Kappa Tau fraternity brothers, sharing career updates, life milestones, and plenty of humor, and makes his way back to campus for Homecoming whenever he can.
When he reminisces about his time at Bethany, one memory stands out above the rest, “Snowmageddon.” During a winter blizzard that shut down campus, Joseph and his fraternity brothers made the most of an unexpected pause in classes, an experience that captures the close-knit community and unforgettable moments that define the Bethany experience.
For current Bethany students, Joseph offers simple but meaningful advice: “Work hard, stay focused, and enjoy it. The cliché is true: College (especially at Bethany) are amongst some of the greatest years of your life.” Reflecting on his journey, he adds, “Bethany College is a wonderful opportunity in such a beautiful place. If you allow it, Bethany can take you anywhere in the world you would like to go.”
